Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 2nd graders who adore learning and playing!
My students love to be in school and part of that is the opportunity to become stronger readers each and every day!
Our students come to school from many backgrounds and most speak English as a second language. They always want to become great readers so they can read and understand books their older siblings and friends are reading!
Students who struggle to read work very hard at becoming readers and the excitement they show when making good progress is hard to describe. It is one of the most satisfying parts of teaching.
My Project
My new 2nd graders will come back to school with various levels of reading ability.
These 2nd graders are ready to read!
These Scholastic sets of short readers will be used during guided reading groups to increase students' reading abilities throughout the school year. The short reads are engaging and not as overwhelming as entire books may be. Students will love learning with them!
The sets provide cards for students to read (rather than entire books) and will be an efficient way for me to instruct small groups. They are interesting to students and will help motivate them to become enthusiastic readers!
