This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of working in a beautiful building filled with enthusiastic, hard-working, self-motivated, and considerate scholars. I teach approximately fifty-two second graders and they definitely keep me on my P's and Q's. My students start each day with a cheery attitude and are always eager to learn. Many of my students have a passion for reading which was displayed through the hard work they put toward their assignments. They did an excellent job getting to know each other this school year, built great friendships, worked hard, and made me extremely proud.
My Project
Do you enjoy having the opportunity to listen to a read-aloud or audiobook? Well, watching my second grade students' imaginations come alive as they listen to read-aloud books truly makes my heart smile. If we receive the audio sets, we will be able to add more listening center books to our current library.
It's also important that my classroom is a comfy community for my kiddos because the environment I create will have an impact on their learning.
I would love to create a space that makes them feel safe, secure, and valued. I will use the bean bag chairs and giant pillows as seating in our classroom library. These materials seem very sturdy and will last for years to come.
I also included many non-fiction resources to help students stay engaged while reading informational text. Students will use activities like 'Think, Talk, and Write Nonfiction Center', 'Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Cards', and 'Small Group Comprehension Folders' during small group centers to help them practice strategies they've learned throughout the school year. My scholars spend the majority of their literacy block collaboratively working in groups, so it's important they have engaging and challenging materials to keep them focused. I believe these nonfiction resources will be a great addition to our learning.
It's my joy to work with a very diverse group of readers, so to be effective, it's important that I meet all their instructional needs. For my kiddos that require more support, I've included resources that will help me implement reading interventions. I plan to use the 'High-Interest Reading Intervention Folders', 'Fluency Comprehension Scripts', and 'Daily Reading Comprehension Activities' to help my students become confident readers. I know these intervention tools will help me increase their fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
