Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing, awesome group of Kindergarten learners. I call them the Doodle Bugs. We are a district with a very high percentage of students receiving free lunch. We are also a district of English Language Learners. Despite these obstacles, the Doodle Bugs amaze me every day. With the difficult circumstances of 100% online instruction, these amazing little scholars are making great strides. They are excited and curious. The effort that they put in is downright Herculean!
Kindergarten is where these wonderful young learners create the foundation that will ensure their academic success!
They bring their "A" Game every day and really put in enormous effort. I am so grateful and honored to be their teacher. I try to be as creative as I can to ensure that they have the resources and materials needed for success.
My Project
There is no substitute for actual books in the hands of the students. At this time, our school district is 100% online. I creatively teach using Google Classroom. My Kindergarten students have adapted and they are absolutely amazing. Teaching reading when students do not have books is very challenging. If I can get leveled reading books to each of my students to use at home, I can conduct guided reading effectively. They will each have a set of the same books. There are numerous reading activities that can be effectively utilized when students have actual books in their hands.
