Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I K-6th grade AVID school. Most of the students are ESL students and come from homes that are facing the challenges of poverty. Our school has many exciting programs such as AVID, Accelerated Reader, PBIS and the 100 Mile Club.
These outstanding programs are teaching our students how to set goals, stay organized, and be positive role models in their community.
Most of our students will be the first generation in their family to go to college. Despite the difficulties my students face at home, they arrive at school each morning excited about learning.
My class this year is made up of ELL students and students who come from a home with high levels of poverty. Meeting the needs of all my scholars can be quit difficult, so getting my students the supplies they need to help them be successful is essential. My biggest reward is watching my students as they meet their goals and become confident learners.
My Project
My fourth-grade students have been hesitant about reading this year. There is so much competition with iPads, iPhones, and Chromebooks that I need to set the spark to help them fall in love with books.
Our class is in need of high-interest books that will encourage them to pick up the book and put down their electronic device.
To help make reading fun, students will have the opportunity to give a book talk about the book they just read. Of course, to make it fun, they will get to use the new wireless microphone for their presentation. Two thumbs up!
