My students need comfortable reading area chairs. Nice rugs that they can sit on that are not dirty and worn out. And swivel seats to help them focus at table time.
In my classroom, I have three deaf and hard of hearing students full time. I also have a kindergartner, second grader and two third graders who all come in for services throughout the day! Two of my students only communicate through ASL (American Sign Language), and the others can speak some English and some ASL. My school is in a very low income area, all of the students here receive free lunch! My students do not always have the best home life, so making sure my classroom is a place they are comfortable is crucial to help them learn!
When students feel safe and comfortable in a learning environment, they are able to learn more sufficiently.
My classroom is full of bright colors and extremely visual. What I am missing is a library area, that is inviting and comfortable and a rug that my students can actually enjoy sitting on that is not dirty and worn out! That is were you all come in!
My Project
In my classroom right now, my students only have two stools to sit on in the library. The stools are not very comfortable and I always have more than two kids in my room at a time. Long story short, my kids always end up sitting on the floor or in a normal seat for their reading time. With the bean bag chairs, I would be able to have all my students have a comfy seat to read in, and they would not have to fight over there being enough.
Students who have a hard time with reading, already do not want to sit and read, but if they have a comfy area that is relaxing to read it becomes a much more inviting place!
In addition to the comfy chairs, I would like a nice comfy rug for my students to sit or even lay on while reading. Right now our rug is stained and very worn out. Nice rugs in the room also make it more inviting!
The final thing I am asking for is from some wiggle stools. I have two in my classroom now and my students have really benefited from them! They are able to sit and concentrate for longer periods and able to keep moving without disrupting my lesson or their peers! I will be getting new students to my room next year, and would love to have enough for every students to have a wiggle stool! Thank you so much for helping my students!
