Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a lower socio-economic area that is 100% free lunch. My class specifically is all English language learners who are making great gains in developing their vocabulary and their reading and writing.
Ensuring that my students have access to a cozy and inviting reading space will help them become amazing readers!
I want them to plead for more reading time!
My students are so enthusiastic about learning and devour books in our classroom library. They love to learn!
My Project
I would like to create an amazing classroom for my awesome students that creates a calm, fun, and cozy reading space. My students love to read but reading at they desk is boring and uncomfortable! We have some carpets for them to sit on but I would love for them to have many different options to enjoy a cozy reading experience! For example, research shows that students who read at least 30 minutes a day become better readers than their peers. While some of my students do this at home, many do not. It is important that they also get classroom time to read and these pieces will help them do that. Moreover, many of these materials will encourage children to build their reading stamina..their ability to read for longer periods of time. We also want them to have access to their leveled library books through using this cart and have a special place to keep their books. These materials give variety to students who have different energy levels and let them enjoy reading in their preferred way! Making my classroom reading-centered gives my students the important message that reading is fun, relaxing, cozy and very important! I also would like to differentiate reading instruction in my classroom and make.it student centered-these materials would help me do that!
