Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach three classes of fourth grade reading in a title one school in inner-city Houston. My students are predominantly Hispanic and English language learners. They are all extremely hard working and have a love for learning. Reading does not come easy to all of my students, but they are always willing to accept help, and they never give up. My students have the biggest hearts, and they deserve the world. They make me smile every day, and I want to provide the best education possible to them because they deserve nothing less than the best.
My Project
I am asking for 5 Amazon Fire tablets to add technology to my students' literacy routine. I will have students use these tablets in a technology station during my reading work stations. My students love to listen to reading, and these tablets will make this a more readily available option for my students.
Incorporating technology in the literacy routine excites students because technology is such an integral part of their lives.
Reading or listening to reading on a tablet is very exciting for students, and is also very beneficial for my many students who come to me reading well below grade level. Not only will I have my students listen to reading on these tablets, but I also plan to have them create projects such as short book review podcasts. I also plan to utilize Dreamscape, which is an app/online literacy game that supports reading comprehension in the intermediate grades.
Having these tablets in my classroom will create an immense amount of excitement among my students. I can see them going a long way in developing my students literacy skills, as well as their excitement for reading!
