The students of my classroom are a diverse group of 8- and 9-year-olds who attend an amazing Title I school. They come from different backgrounds and cultures and together create an amazing class of energetic, kind, and loving students.
Each day that my students walk into our classroom, they are ready for a new learning adventure.
Whether it's a science experiment or a hunt for blends in their books, they are ready for it. They are held to high expectations and they do all they can to meet and exceed those expectations. Their love for learning is clear and inspirational, especially when they have those "aha!" moments. While most of my students aren't quite sure what they want to do when they grow up, they are developing the skills and confidence to be the future leaders that we need.
My Project
Storyworks and Storyworks Jr. will help engage my students and make them excited about reading. The articles in these magazines are relatable to 3rd graders, and that provides a huge advantage in reading instruction. When students are interested in what they are reading, they will work hard to comprehend it, which is an essential reading skill. These magazines will not only provide materials for independent reading, but also resources for small group reading. They expose students to passages that are fiction, non-fiction, plays, poetry, and paired text. Having all of these types of text within one magazine is irreplaceable! In addition, the magazine provides different levels of the articles which allows it to be accessible by all students. I know my students and I will love Storyworks and Storyworks Jr.!
