This year I am blessed to have such a caring group of kindergarteners. Their enthusiasm for learning and love for one another inspires me on a daily basis. Even though they come from very different backgrounds they care about one another and do the best they can to let others know.
Our class motto is "Little people spreading big love." In all they do, I encourage them to be kind and to give what they have to offer to the world, no matter how much or how little it may seem.
They are all unique and wonderful in their own ways. In our class we work really hard to meet people where they are at and celebrate them in all of their growth. I work in a school with many low socioeconomic students.
Unfortunately, we do not have many financial resources, and because of this my students lack opportunities that they may be afforded somewhere else. Any support we can get is very appreciated.
My Project
Kindergartners learn so much in their first year of school. They learn to read, write, count, add, subtract, and just how to exist in a school setting. An important piece of that learning is making sure kids are engaged and having fun while doing it.
The math and reading games and materials will help reinforce and extend concepts that the students are learning but in an exciting and interesting way.
Kindergartners learn best through play. It meets them at their level developmentally while allowing them to grow both academically and socially.
The reading games will be used during word work to help them grow in skills such as letter naming, letter sounds, first sound fluency, rhyming, and phonemic awareness. The math games will be used during small group math rotations to reinforce concepts such as counting, patterning, shapes, sorting, and number recognition. All of these skills are the foundation for the rest of their academic careers. If they do not have these, they will struggle to be successful later on. These games will also teach them important social skills like turn-taking, sharing, good sportsmanship, communication skills, conflict resolution, patience, and emotional regulation; all previously stated skills are important for academic and social success in school.
