The students in our Head Start program are amazing and creative artists! They thoroughly enjoy the process of creating. Whether they end up with beautiful works of art, or just painting their hands and getting messy, the children have a lot of fun in the Atelier (art studio). They are eager to explore, learn, build, and express themselves in a variety of ways. Interesting materials that provide unique textures and experiences interest the children very much and inspire wonderful creations! Many of the children are very hands-on and enjoy provocations that are vibrant and that use real-life objects they may have never encountered before. We have 8 classrooms in our building and all of them have the chance to create and explore!
My Project
I have observed many of the children in each classroom that visits the art studio drawing rainbows. I'd like to give them quality materials to use to create bright works. I would like to give the children many options of markers in a variety of styles, like broad and fine tips, watercolor brush tips, and paint sticks. It would also be nice to give them fresh white watercolor paper to draw on with the vibrant markers as the white paper goes very quickly in our building. I also chose to add a color wheel poster in our materials to inspire and ignite the children's desire to mix colors and create their own. We will engage in discussions about rainbows and how they occur along with creating our own!
