I teach kindergarten in a Title I school. This means that over 80% of our students come from low-income families. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students have never been in a school setting before.
Even though we are in a virtual learning setting, I believe that all of my students are capable of learning and growing.
I want to provide them a warm and welcoming environment to learn and grow. I love how young students are always eager to participate in their learning process.
My Project
Even though we are still in a virtual learning environment, we are still playing games with our students during whole and small groups. We have enjoyed playing that many math games that we have available, but we are looking to add more literacy games. Some of the items requested will also be used as independent work stations when we return to school.
We are currently working on first sound fluency and getting ready to move on to tapping out the sounds that we hear in simple words.
These games will make learning these skills more engaging. Two of the games are lock games that work on these skills. Last year we found that our students loved finding the matching key to open a lock. These games add in the foundational literacy skills in order to find the key that will open the lock.
There is also a big book set that I would love to be able to share with my students. These books come with multiple activities and puppets in order to help retell the story using the key details. This is a recurring standard throughout Kindergarten.
