A place for everything and everything in its place. (Mrs. Beeton) My dream for our classroom is precisely that! The cubbies will help students to get supplies and quickly be on task. Organization is hard for anyone, but for 1st graders it is a real challenge without the proper system in place.
I have a group of 17 first graders.
They are fun loving and energetic and need to be able to use manipulatives to help them with their learning. In our class, I have many different levels of abilities and when it comes to manipulatives, it takes a lot of time to pass out what each student needs. Some need more than others. My students are eager to learn and need organization to help them be successful. My students are learning the best way to become organized. There are some that struggle with organization and I would love to not only teach academics, but the skills that they need the rest of their life.
My Project
Our school is a Title 1 school with about 70%+ on free and reduced lunch. In my classroom we have supplies to use, but don't have the best way or places to store the manipulatives that we aren't using at that time. With the cubbies, I will be able to put classroom numbers on the bins (so to use them over and over each year) so each student knows which drawer is theirs. I can differentiate the manipulatives that are in each cubby according to the skill level of each student. During independent work time, students would be able to go over to the shelf and get their draw so they can use what they need to complete their work with the supplies needed.
I am always looking for ways to maximize the learning time of my students, so this would benefit them greatly. I wouldn't be the one handing out different supplies to different students. It would be available to them at any time.
By donating to this project you will help provide students with the materials that could help them become more successful and organized.
I can't afford to purchase this for my classroom so I am asking for your help. Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for helping improve my students' math skills as well as their life skill of organization.
