This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm a 5th-grade teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our students come from various economic backgrounds, with 100% of our students receiving free lunch.
I believe that for my students to be successful, they need all the tools to do so.
They are innovative and need a little help along the way to be successful.
My Project
Our school is hosting our first ever STEM Week! We want to immerse our scholars in awareness of STEM careers since we understand the importance of them. Throughout the week, we will provide more opportunities for our students to engage in real life application of science, technology, engineering, and math, through all content areas.
Funding for this project will support our GLOW Day event which will boost student morale and increase participation.
Items in my cart are black paper to cover our windows to black out our classroom. Two black lights to make items glow. I've included glow in the dark glasses to wear while reading and glow in the dark decorations. I've even included a mad scientist costume so that I could dress in character for our mad scientist day!
During this event, our students will complete numerous STEM challenges in the DARK, even reading stories. This fun filled event will spark lots of creativity and keep our students engaged!
