Our school provides services to students who come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students provide their own unique characteristics to the classroom. They are always willing to try their best in order to succeed. I see that each of them use a variety of strategies in order to meet their individual goals.
I have noticed that during my reading and math classes my students prefer flexible seating or working in a comfortable learning environment.
My students enjoy completing math and reading assignments where they are most comfortable. I find that when my students are working from their flexible seating their minds are at ease and they put forward their best effort.
As a third year teacher, I would like to be able to provide the best resources in order to best meet the individual needs of my students.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. When students choose their seating they feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
Children also need to move, and with flexible seating this allows them to wobble, bounce, or lean.
All of these positions provide students with more oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also keeps the young mind more alert and focused. An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student.
Flexible seating also allows students to collaborate with one another. Flexible seating allows students to quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class – without moving mountains of heavy desks to establish eye contact
