Help me give my students the opportunity to create their own sketchbooks. Each student will use 15 pages of copy paper, making the total number of pages 5715, with no mistakes or extras for transfer students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of curiosity and creativity. Most of them are Hispanic, which means a high level of respect in the classroom, as well as a need for bilingual education. This entails a high level of visual and kinesthetic learning, as audio learning must be both English and Spanish.
Although this group of respectful students deserve every advantage, they have to make do with less.
My kids live in the second poorest zip code in Oklahoma City. Most of them qualify for free & reduced lunch programs. Although they don't always have the best materials, my students are curious, creative, and ready to learn.
My Project
Sketchbooks are the backbone of art class. With these materials, my students will each be able to make a sketchbook with a construction paper cover, 15 copy pages inside, and yarn book-binding techniques. Older students will use the hand-hole punches for greater control, while 1st and 2nd grade students may use the electric hole-punch, one at a time. With well over the 5,715 pages that we will need, we have enough wiggle room to mess up, or make extra sketchbooks for future transfer students. We will also be able to make new sketchbooks next year for a fraction of the cost this year.
Having a sketchbook, or a safe place to mess up, makes students less afraid of making mistakes.
Students who are less afraid to mess up try more often, and students who try more often succeed more often. Making your own sketchbook is rewarding. Many students take pride to have made a physical, tangible, book that is immediately useful to them. This project helps students in Erickson's Industry vs. Inferiority stage (age 5-12) succeed.
