Help me give my students access to solid Tubano drums for improvising patterns when we're learning new rhythms and during movement activities. Recorders help students who cannot afford their own instrument.
The music students here love movement, singing and playing instruments. They have instruction primarily based on singing to build our ear and personal skills. Movement is also important to connect the music we're making to our bodies and our brains. The students are a mix of neighborhood students and students who transfer in to attend our Fine Arts programming.
The music class is a wonderful blend of singing and movement and we'd love to add more instruments to enhance our learning.
Tubano drums will be used to help students reinforce new rhythmic concepts. Students will use them to practice known patterns, and to improvise new patterns using known and unknown rhythmic ideas. Students will also use the drums to improvise patterns to accompany movement activities, and in formal performances.
Recorders will be available to students who cannot afford to purchase their own personal instrument.
Recorder playing helps develop breath control, music reading skills, and solo and ensemble performance skills.
These instruments will help students create and express their own musical ideas. Students will gain confidence in their musical and performance abilities.
