I have been teaching for two decades and it is an absolute joy for me. I teach in an alternative city school in Pittsburgh. I am a graduate of Pittsburgh Public Schools and it is very rewarding to give back to where I came from.
My students come from all over the Pittsburgh area and even neighboring communities outside of the city limits.
Being seniors, many of my students are parents and are motivated to create a better life for themselves and their children. Many of them have seen things that would break the average person. Some are very broken. Some are physically and emotionally fatigued taking two to three buses to come to school after working a fast-food job until close. Our students aren't lazy; they just haven't had some of the same opportunities that some other students are afforded.
My Project
These materials, the dry erase board, the markers, and the eraser will allow my students to work in small groups and share out their ideas with each other.
It will promote leadership by encouraging students to guide small group discussions, share out and collect ideas while giving them ownership of the content.
The board will be used to give my students updates, warm-ups, and quotes of the day.
These items, the dry erase board, markers, and eraser will greatly enhance students' ability to take ownership of group discussions and build their confidence as leaders.
