My students are amazing! Many of them have persevered through the challenging situations that life has thrown at them. They are truly my heroes! Our school is a therapeutic day school for special needs students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students typically attend our school due to challenging behaviors in general education buildings. These behaviors are often physically or verbally aggressive, either towards staff members and/or students and themselves.
Most students that come to our school have typically experienced traumatic events in their lives and/or suffer from mental health disabilities.
The goal of our classroom is to determine effective interventions so that students can transition back to their general education settings.
My Project
My students learn best by doing! Some of my students struggle academically, many times due to missing important foundational skills in both reading and math. Most of these gaps occur due to missed school because of challenging behaviors. In our classroom, we work hard to fill in gaps of missing skills to get our students back to working on grade level. This allows for my students to transition easier back to a traditional school setting.
Your donation will provide my students with a light table and accessories, giving my students with a hands on experience to learn basic foundational skills.
The neon glasses, ice cubes, clear stickers, and pebbles will be used to create reading and math activities. The activities will include matching numbers to quantities, upper case to lower case letters, identifying letter sounds, and more! The bright colors and sensory input will keep my students motivated, engaged, and learning.
