Making My Classroom Comfortable and Impactful

My students need floor cushions, which will allow them to learn more comfortably; a document camera to allow for more direct instruction, and tote bags to carry books.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first year teacher, starting my career at a Title 1 school. Although I have not met my students yet, I have heard many wonderful things about them from their past teachers. My students love to learn and are hard-working. They are active and love to move around. They come to school excited and energetic.

Most importantly, they feel safe when they come to school.

My students may not have all they need at home, and may not be able to bring in all of the supplies they need for school. My school has high levels of poverty amongst its population. I am hoping to be able to provide my students with all that they deserve through DonorsChoose.org.

My Project

The floor cushions will allow my students to feel comfortable while learning, and will give them the freedom to move around in ways that help them sustain focus. Because our classroom is smaller than most, this will help to create more space in our room.

The document camera will give me the tools to better reach my students by explicitly modeling instruction.

Students will be able to clearly watch as I show step by step procedures under the camera.

The tote bags will be used as personal book bags, providing students with a place to keep their books and allowing them to carry their books to their reading stations.
