Help me give my students a portion of their registration to showcase their hard work in an unforgettable performance at a quality music festival followed by having the time of their lives at an amusement park that afternoon!
My students are passionate about choir. Over the past three years, the amount of students who have participated in choir has tripled. They are not only musicians, they are artists, athletes, R.O.T.C. cadets, theater students etc. Some of my students have remarked:
“Choir is the reason I come to school.”
“Choir is like a family to me.”
“Being a part of a musical ensemble is extremely challenging and extremely rewarding.”
Some students have sung in choir for their entire education and for some this is their first musical experience during the school day.
Some of my students have special needs. These are my most enthusiastic students. The value and impact that a period of choir has for them during their school day is invaluable.
My Project
Students will have a quality performance opportunity that will function as a culminating year-end showcase. Experienced vocal teachers will offer suggestions on how to improve the students’ music-making. A Music In The Parks festival provides an exciting goal for my students beyond their Spring Concert as they prepare to be judged by an outside panel which will reinforce music skills that I have taught throughout the academic year. My students would not be able to perform in such a festival apart from outside funding due to their socio-economic status. Beyond the value of being tied to my curriculum, the feeling of bringing home a trophy for this festival is like winning a major sporting event. It helps increase awareness of the arts and reflects that the school has a balanced curriculum. This year-end experience also has a positive effect on recruitment and student retention in my Performing Arts program.
