Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day involves differentiated music instruction for grade levels TK-6th as well as Special Ed classes. We sing, dance and play instruments while learning the fundamentals of music.
Our school site services a culturally diverse population.
The majority of our students are learning English as a second language. The music program at our school has recently been implemented and my students are eager to come to class each week and become musicians!
My Project
Students will use resonator bells to become familiar with different pitches various songs. These bells will also help students learn musical scales. Unhitched instruments will assist in learning, feeling, and maintaining the fundamentally important steady beat in music. Different percussive instruments, such as guiros and cowbells will be placed around the parachute while students move their way around it to change the instruments they use in a song.
Facilitated learning experiences through musical instruction promotes academic growth for students.
When students are engaged, learning is taking place. Using musical instruments also helps develop fine motor skills and each student can move at their own pace. This will foster creativity, confidence, encourage a lifetime opportunity to perform independently, and also allow students to form a lifelong appreciation for music.
