My students need new glockenspiels because the ones they have been using are old and falling apart.
Nothing inspires learning in children like the creativity that comes with playing musical instruments. Glockenspiels are just the right size for my kindergarteners to use to explore pitched instruments in the music classroom.
Students at my school come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
We are a minority majority school with 77% of our children coming from minority families, including Hispanic, African American, Asian and Pacific Islander. We have over twenty languages represented by our student population. Our school is also Title I which means that the majority of our students come from a low-income background. Despite the fact that many of our kindergarteners come to school not knowing English and are from low-income families, they are enthusiastic, hard-working, sweet, and they love to learn. Our motto is 'Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships,' which the students really work toward under the guidance of their teachers.
My students deserve to have quality musical instruments to play during music class. Unfortunately, our current glockenspiels are old and breaking down. In music class the kindergarteners do many activities with glockenspiels that help them to learn about pitch. We focus on high and low sounds which also helps them with vocal inflection. This in turn improves students' fluency by helping them to speak and read with more fluidity and emotion. It also will help them to better understand voice (the mood) when reading or writing as they grow. Students in higher grade levels will also benefit from the glockenspiels as they use them for various activities they do in class and in their percussion ensemble.
Glockenspiels are an important part of music education for kindergarteners.
They spark students' imagination and allow them to learn the basic principles of music. These basics will in turn teach real skills that will help them with their speech, reading, and writing as they get older.Read More
