Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Bilingual Pre-K teacher that teaches in a public school. My twenty students range in age from 3 to 5 years old. My students come from a lower-income neighborhood. I strive to afford them exciting opportunities to learn in various ways.
My students are extremely inquisitive, creative, and eager to learn.
They are hands-on learners and have energy and enthusiasm for learning new topics. My students are loving, caring and supportive of one another. I'm excited to support them on their journey of learning and growing.
My Project
Music is a great way to get children engaged in learning. It is a fun and interactive activity that can get all students participating on some level. Listening to music, singing along to a song or making music using instruments are all great ways to get students involved and learning.
This new music center will help unlock my students' creativity.
My students can makes gains in school readiness, social emotional, intellectual, motor and language skills through music. The CD/Cassette player will provide me an easy way to play music throughout the day. I use music to start our day, for transitions, whole group activities and to end our day on a positive note. Having a CD/Cassette player that has Bluetooth capabilities will allow me to use music from my phone to play their favorite songs from YouTube.
I also want my students to be able to make their own music. What is great about the rhythm instrument set is, that it can be used in the music center as well as for a whole group activity. The rhythm set instruments and shakers will provide my students the freedom to make music as they please. They will learn that different instruments make different sounds and require different movements to make those sounds. Through explorations, use and guidance they will learn how to use the instruments. I plan on using CD's like Fiesta Musical CD to tie into their culture and accompany the instruments. We will play games to build listening skills and children will have to follow directions on how they should play their instruments. I hope that listening to and creating music will continue to help my students with their learning, participation and interaction with their peers.
