I teach K-5 General music, 4th, and 5th-grade chorus, and two self-contained classes for children with severe autism. My youngest students love exploring their singing voices through vocal exploration, echo singing, and simple songs. We use our bodies for creative, expressive, and beat keeping movement. They are excited to learn, and I would love to be able to provide them with more opportunities to express their own musical ideas in the classroom.
"First Steps in Music" and "Conversational Solfege" have transformed my teaching, and has made my young musicians tuneful, beautiful, and artful: I am eager to connect with musicians around the country (and world) at this conference to continue to learn how to improve my teaching and keep the students engaged!
As a general music teacher, we teach every student in the building, regardless of their interest level in music. It is my goal to try and reach even the most hesitant of music learners and to provide enriching musical experiences for them throughout their six years with me!
My Project
In my graduate studies, I was fortunate enough to study with Dr. John Feierabend at the Hartt School of Music. While I was studying with him, Dr. Feierabend started an association for music educators. I was thrilled to attend the first two conferences presented by FAME. I have met so many amazing music educators across the country at these events, and attended eye-opening and informative sessions on a range of topics.
This year's conference will feature incredible keynote speakers, inspiring workshops, and important opportunities to continue to learn my craft and connect with other music educators from around the country and world, and staying in the conference hotel will allow me to continue building relationships after the workshops have ended.
I am confident that attending this conference will help me come back to school in September inspired and ready to refine my teaching as I head into year 6!
