Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade at a Title I school which means most of our students are one free or reduced lunch and live at or below the poverty line. School is a haven for my students but not always the most important thing on their mind.
I am always looking for ways to make the school day and everything I teach more exciting.
In the words of Mary Poppins, "A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down." I think making learning fun helps to lessen the burden on my students.
My Project
My students come from low income families with limited resources. These materials will enhance my teaching and give my students experiences they could not get anywhere else.
Our classroom recently received a grant for Dash and Dot robots that we are learning to code.
The xylophones allow for the students to learn music and coding to create music in addition to coding the robot for music. These xylophones will bring in a new dimension to our lessons. We are excited to learn to code and we would like to use these xylophones to make some beautiful music in first grade.
