My students are suburban middle schoolers navigating that tough stage of life. For many of them, band is a refuge that helps them through!
Playing an instrument and learning musical skills is of high interest to my students, and they work hard to achieve and improve.
We have three levels of band: beginning, intermediate, and concert, and some students also participate in an additional jazz band class. I become quite close with my students over the three years they are with me and I desire to provide them what they need to learn.
My Project
Band trips are great performance opportunities for my students and also a wonderful opportunity to build memories. This year’s trip will have us traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to compete at the Carowinds Festival and enjoying some time at the park.
These trips are events that bring our families together and encourage parent involvement and engagement.
Many of our families will be involved in chaperoning this trip, getting to know their child's classmates and friends, and supporting their child's learning in a firsthand way. We even have parents that will drive several hours out of state to watch their children perform in the festival - talk about parent involvement!
Our area is very diverse, which can make funding these trips difficult. Some families can easily pay for their child, but many others, while not strictly in poverty, don't have extra funds for trips like this. I feel it is very important that every member of the ensemble have a chance to go on the trip, and your donation can help make this possible. Opportunities like this trip can be the highlight of the year for some of my students!
