My school has about 700 students from low to middle income families. There is quite a bit of diversity among the staff and students. Student to teacher ratio is 22:1 with one music teacher for the whole school.
The students only get to come to music class once a week, so I have to make the most of my time with them.
There are a few after school programs, including Choir, and School Musical. The school PTA has fairly low membership. In most homes, both parents work full time jobs. I want to make their time at school as wonderful as I can!
My Project
These new instruments and stands have adaptive qualities that can help students with impaired motor skills to be able to play instruments with the class. The bells can be played by hitting them. Students who cannot grip will be able to play these bells more easily. The xylophone stand can raise instruments up to wheelchair height making it easier for students to reach it, and large drums have a larger surface to hit. In addition to this, these instruments will replace some instruments in the classroom that are 30 years old and in poor condition. These instruments will be a blessing to my students with special needs!
