Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a terrific group of third graders. My students attend a Title I elementary school located in the city of La Puente, California. Approximately, 90% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantage. Many of the students are English Language Learners with various academic needs. They have hard working parents who want the best for them and a better future.
Engaging, meaningful and transformational educational experiences have the power to help my students achieve in school and life.
I’m passionate and dedicated in providing my students with as many learning opportunities they need to succeed in the future. Your support will help me create a rich classroom environment with empowering learning experiences that promote literacy, critical thinking, inquiry, collaboration, creativity and collaboration.
My Project
The students in my classroom don't know life without constant connectivity, wi-fi, and a global audience. Outside the windows of my classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. I hope to create a classroom environment that is conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Students will feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Items such as wobble stools, fidget bands, and movable chairs will be used to allow students to have options for where they can best work and learn.
The goal of flexible seating is to give students choice and to help them find the type of seating that allows them to achieve their best learning.
Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Their best learning spot may change throughout the day based on their needs or the work that they’re being asked to do. Therefore, students will have the option of changing work spots when necessary.
Over all, the flexible seating options funded through this project will provide opportunities for my students to move and find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. There is no better way to show our support for a student-centered classroom, than creating a classroom from a child’s point of view.
