My classroom is a resource classroom where students come from various environments to learn how to read and write on their academic level. These students have a drive to succeed, and are met with trials on a daily basis due to their reading ability. Several of these students this year have ADHD in addition to reading deficits, which creates a need for more movement in my classroom.
My Project
The stability balls will allow students with ADHD to participate in class while moving, without drawing too much attention to themselves. Students at this age do not want to be different from their peers, and using a typical household item will accommodate their needs without causing them to stand out.
Students with ADHD will rotate in using the stability balls, and all students will benefit from alternate means of lighting to create a calming atmosphere.
Students with ADHD want to blend in with their peers. Using the balls in addition to the lighting will help them to use alternate means to channel their energy.
