We all have that one book that we remember, but it was probably not a teacher-chosen novel! If you are a reader, I am sure that you most enjoy reading what you want to read. Kids do too! I want to provide enough choices in my personal classroom library to allow students that option.
These kids are eager, and as older kids they deserve better!
They have a huge desire to read, but my high school classroom library is lacking behind other schools in our area. It is proven that reading increases standardized scores, and as a lower income area, we are desperate for funding assistance for college, and a higher ACT score can provide that help!
Reading is a huge part of my life, it is a stress reliever and takes me away from my busy life. I want my students to have that opportunity as well! The world is a tough place these days, and by providing an outlet through books for my kids, I may be able to help them relax and find a peace, all while increasing their vocabulary and reading.
My Project
What do successful CEOs and fast food workers have in common? They both have to be able to read. And the faster they can read, the faster they can do their jobs, and the more successful they will be.
Reading is the first step to success.
Reading comprehension and retention begins with picking up a book. My students need to have more options to choose from in my class library. I surveyed my students to see what books they would want to see in our room. These books I am requesting could jump start the future of my students!
