Help me give my students 2 classroom iPads, cases, and headphones so that they can experience the creative process of composing their own music and share with their classmates, friends, and families.
At my elementary school, my students come into class always excited and ready for the next project or game we are playing in music. Technology is always incorporated into lessons, whether it's through the Smart Board, iPad, or interactive website games. Students are always willing to put themselves out there, especially if it means getting to use the 'fun' and 'exciting' tech equipment.
While our school is located in a small mountain town, the cultural variety is not lacking.
There are families of every cultural background at our school and the students are always willing to share a little bit about themselves. Our classroom takes the opportunity to forge this diversity into a tight-knit family as well as give opportunities for self-expression through various musically-based technological opportunities.
My Project
Students will have access to small group center activities, such as a listening station and a creation station, where they can listen to a variety of styles of music provided by the school district music curriculum that will be uploaded on to the iPads. It also allows students to learn about their classmates and their culture when listening to music from around the world.
This project offers children the freedom to express themselves musically as individuals, provide positive experiences, and ownership to their own creations.
My students will have the opportunity to use different music apps on the iPad that support reading, writing, and composing music. Some of these apps that will downloaded to the iPad are Treble Cat, Rhythm Cat, GarageBand, Staff Wars, and ScoreCloud Studio. The use of headphones will help students be able to hear what they are creating without the distraction of other iPad users in the room. The cases for the iPads are so they last longer and stay in better condition over time as students from every class use them.
