I work at two different middle schools in Arnold, Missouri. I work with about 800+ sixth, seventh and eighth grade students on a weekly basis. I help the students grow emotionally, socially, and academically. Students in our district come from many different home environments. There are many low income families in our schools. Some students have parents in and out of jail while other are homeless. Many of the students are on free and reduced lunch plans. To many of our students, school is their safe place and their family.
I see on average about 5-10 students each day who are suffering with a mental health issue.
I want to have all the tools possible to help the students feel confident and comfortable with their mental health.
My Project
In schools today it is so important to monitor students mental health on a daily basis. Mental health issues include depression, anxiety, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, bullying, etc. Mental health deals with how we relate with others, handle stress, and make choices. As a school counselor, I am not supplied with many items to help my students. I have selected items that can help students with their mental health is a fun way.
I am the advocate for mental health in my building and I would greatly benefit from these tools.
Students are faced with so many issues in today's world, let's make mental health issues something they are prepared to deal with!
