This is my students first school experience, and for most their first prolonged separation from a parent, grandparent or guardian. My students are learning to interact with peers for the first time and are learning to do so with kindness and respect. My young learners may be considered academically at risk, but they are amazing kids, with an endless potential if given the opportunity.
What my young students have in abundance is a lot of love, an inquisitive nature and a genuine desire to learn.
We are a Title I preschool in an urban, public school system. Over 78% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. To them it doesn't matter what their lives are like at home, when they come to school they know it's a safe place that encourages them to use their imagination, allows them to explore, and helps train them to use their intellect in a fun and creative way.
Literacy is the focal point of our classroom. My students create class books, individual books and journals. I maintain a portfolio of the year for each of my students. Being able to take pictures and print them almost instantly on our classroom printer not only makes the process easier, but it provides instant gratification for my students keeping their attention and focus on the project for a longer period of time. It's easier to work on a project while it stays fresh in your mind.
The vinyl will be used to create book covers.
The laminate paper will fit in my classroom laminator helping to preserve priceless artwork and fiction of my young authors and illustrators. The addition of a comb binder and combs and 3-hole punch will make assembling the books and portfolios more convenient and allow my young students to take ownership of every step in the book making process.
There's nothing more rewarding than making lasting memories while my students learn and create. The requested Alpha Tales set and word family mini books will allow reinforcement of letter writing and phonics. The Never Touch a ... series and other fun, simple books will become the inspiration for classroom and individual books my young learners will make during the year.
The materials in this project will preserve the special work my students produce and allow them and their families to look back on their work as the year goes on, as well as for years to come. Your support of this project will make those memories possible.
