Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third-grade teacher at a Title I school, in a low-income, high-poverty, school district, where 99% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students overcome adversity every day when they simply walk through the classroom door.
They are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom, and yet, they are always excited to come to school each morning and are willing and ready to learn.
I love to take any opportunity to give my third graders what will help them be prepared and ready for the future.
My Project
Children love ART. Unfortunately, they don't always get the chance to explore using the many types of materials an artist uses. Students should have the tools an artist uses such as: a canvas to paint on, a variety of acrylic paints, different-sized brushes, and easels. Learning to paint can be a load of fun, and it's a skill they will take with them.
Students are very creative and they should be given opportunities to show it through ART.
I want to give my students the opportunity to paint pictures using different colored acrylic paints on a canvas. I want my students to have the experience of painting on a canvas instead of paper.
Allowing each student to paint on a canvas is an experience not many children get. It would be great to have art supplies for each of my students. Learning how to paint on canvas will be a memory I know my 3rd graders will cherish.
