Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an amazing group that have a natural curiosity for the world around them. In my class, students are learning about math and science, but have very little opportunity to showcase their knowledge in a creative way.
My school is a Title I school with a large portion of our students on free and reduced lunch.
Many of our students are not able to get supplies like these on their own. As a result, many have also lost their creativity in classes like math and science because their creativity is limited by the supplies available to them.
My Project
In order to really address the growing curiosity and creativity of my students, I need supplies to allow them a creative outlet for their classwork. Students can use the vibrant markers and color pencils to make their work pop. In addition, they can use the scissors, post-it notes, and pipe stems to create manipulatives for problem solving.
By fostering creativity within the classroom, students are able to advance their problem solving and critical thinking skills.
It challenges students to look at the information from another perspective and creatively express their findings to the class. These supplies would allow my students to interpret the information in class in new ways and engage them on a new level.
