My students need hands-on games and manipulatives, such as ten frame boards, a 120 chart, and engaging mathematics games to engage while they are learning mathematics!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first grade teacher in a Pre-K through 8th grade school. All of my students come from low income families. Many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities on a daily basis. In spite of all of the negative forces they must face daily, they are all very inquisitive and eager to learn students. My students desire the stability and routine of a healthy school environment. We are engaged in our learning and are striving to become life-long learners.
My students are thinkers, dreamers, and doers.
They love to put on their “thinking caps” and stretch their brains to become the very best learners they can be. It is my desire to give them the tools they need to achieve their goals and realize their dreams.
My Project
My students need hands on math tools and fun math games to engage and motivate them to learn math. We use the workshop model in our district. Students are given independent work time to help develop their understanding of math concepts. These materials will give our students the opportunity to build a strong foundation with hands on visual learning, as well as increase engagement through playing fun math games. The materials will be used both whole group, small guided groups, and independent learning center time. Students can use the ten frame boards, dry erase number lines, and fun mathematics games to help develop understanding of anchors of ten and 120 chart to help them visually understand how to add and subtract 10 to any number, and use the number bonds to help develop early numeracy skills.
By donating to our project, you will not only help improve our student's foundation skill, you will also be helping to increase their engagement and love of math!
The more hands on opportunities students have, the better chance of them learning and remembering math concepts.
