This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As educators, more often than not, we are expected to provide high-quality learning opportunities in our classrooms despite having insufficient materials to do so.
As a new teacher, it is particularly difficult to provide adequate materials for students.
My scholars are brilliant and they deserve high-quality resources and materials that are similar to their higher-income peers. This gap should not determine a difference in their educational experience.
The community of learners in which I teach is vibrant, tight-knit, joyful, and eager to learn each and everyday. My students are dreamers. They dig deep into their learning, demonstrate curiosity through questioning, and display a sense of energy that is contagious. My students deserve nothing less than amazing. They are the future!
My Project
These materials will provide an opportunity for students to engage in daily guided math talks that will boost their math confidence and fluency. This ETA math kit provides manipulatives that are hands-on and visual, and adhere to different student learning styles. There are many concepts to explore, including: subitizing, counting on and counting back, and making combinations of five and ten, to name a few. These are critical components to math in first grade! The kit also provides a teacher manual, which will help guide my practice in helping them build these critical connections in their math learning. Help me, help them build their math fluency!
