Our charter school is a Title I school serving students from Hamilton and Trenton, New Jersey. Seventy-nine percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, as well as food for them to bring home to their families over the weekend
Our school is made up of students who want to succeed academically.
Parents choose to send their children to our school because we provide our students with a rigorous curriculum that challenges them while instilling a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
“Why do we need to know this” is only one of the many things math teachers hear from their students. In order to be engaging, math needs to be relevant. With a Scholastic Math magazine subscription, students can dive deeper into the world of math in a real world context.
Reading a non-fiction text that incorporates math is an engaging way for our students to learn.
In my classroom, we would use these during periods of time between different units of learning to see how those individual topics fit into our everyday lives. Once finished, I’m sure students will be waiting excitedly for the next issue to arrive.
We are also low on graph paper and pencils, two of the most important supplies every math classroom needs. New calculators are also important because my class sizes are expanding for next school year.
