My Students

Every year I feel like such a lucky teacher. Although I have students from a wide variety of backgrounds and economic situations, I feel like every one of my students loves to be at school and tries their best each day. However, many of my students lack technology, internet, and general support at home. Some students aren't able to complete the on-line portion of assignments at home due to a lack of resourcces. Despite their circumstances, my students are dedicated and hard working, and deserve the same experiences, equipment, and tools that other more affluent elementary schools offer. I love my students and would love to give them every opportunity to be successful in and out of the classroom.

My students and I are grateful for any materials donated to our classroom that can enhance their learning experience.

My Project

Electronic Writing Tablets allow students to practice math with something other than a boring worksheet! My students love to do whiteboard work. And it is a great way for me to quickly assess each student's level of understaning and address misconceptions early. Students will generally work harder and complete more than twice as many problems on their whiteboards than they do on a worksheet. Whiteboards are also a great way for me to work with my students who are quarantined at home. On Zoom it is hard for me to see the work students do on paper, but I can easily see what they are doing on their whiteboards. However, with over 180 students walking through my door each day, it is a constant battle trying to keep markers from drying out and erasers in stock. Even when I send whiteboards home with students, their markers quickly run out and many of them are once again working with paper that I can't see to help them with.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work, less afraid to make a mistake, and more willing to try hard problems when they are given something eraseable to write on.

It is also easier for me to assess and help students quickly. However, white boards don't seem to be the answer. The products that I have selected will help my students by providing them a safe place to work on math without the fear of mistakes. If we can spend less time trying to find a marker that works, we will have more time to spend practicing math!
