My Students
I have a wonderful group of students and they enjoy learning new things! As with most children, they are very active and sometimes it can become difficult to keep them engaged for extended periods of time. Some of my little smarties need to be challenged and some need some extra practice!
It's important that they know that learning is not always instant.
Just because it's not a strength now, doesn't mean it won't be later! We have to practice and grow. They only way to do that is to make all of our learning experiences meaningful.
My Project
With little learners you have to keep things interesting! When they are learning number sense they need lots of hands-on opportunities to manipulate numbers. I chose many different types of counters for students to use.
Who wants to count circles when you can count dinosaurs or cars?
The counter library will help to keep math fresh and to keep them engaged. Students will use their base ten packs to learn about place value in a way that's meaningful and personal. In first grade we use ten frames to teach number sense and introduce addition and subtraction. The student ten frame kits will be very helpful with many math concepts throughout the year!
