This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh the thinks you can think up if only you try -Dr.Suess. I give my students many opportunities to ask questions and to think.
Here are the numbers: there are 27 children.
11 of them are boys and 16 of them are girls. Of the 27 children 4 of them are reading on grade level,14 reading below grade level, and 9 reading above grade level. 19% are proficient in basic math skills. I do not focus on the numbers often, but I do keep them in mind so that I can help the numbers to increase. My children are 100% children. They talk, move, laugh, play, listen, write, count, maybe not always at the right time, however. They are also willing and ready to learn. My job is to teach how they learn, not for them to learn how I teach.
My Project
The math read -alouds will be used to help introduce new concepts in math. There are many concepts: adding, subtraction, measuring, and money. They will be used to lead discussions about math and understanding how it works. I will begin a new unit of math instruction with a read aloud. As we move though the lesson I will use the books to create learning activities and math centers.
Having these books will aide me in teaching.
Math read-alouds can particularly help students see math in a new light. Ultimately the read-alouds will keep my students engaged and learning.
