Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I greet my students every day with a smile and a "buenos días." My students arrive at school eager to learn, explore, and grow, despite many of them facing adversities in their lives. I believe they all have something special to contribute to my classroom.
In my classroom, my students are emergent bilingual readers, writers, problem-solvers, scientist, artists, and so much more.
Our school serves a majority of low-income students. It provides free meals to all students. Sadly, some families struggle to provide the basic necessities that the students need.
My Project
My students love math time they see it as an opportunity to learn, play, and explore especially when they have the right materials. These materials are so important for my students because they make math accessible. Students are building their math foundational skills in first grade, these simple materials will benefit them for many years to come.
Just like building a house, my students need materials to help build a strong math foundation.
My students need these materials to help make abstract math concepts concrete and accessible. The Rekenreks, dice, and ten frames with counters will be used for various math activities and games. They need Rekenreks to help with counting, making equations, and other important math concepts.
