Help me give my students various math manipulatives such as number line slider boards and a hands-on regrouping kit to improve their math understanding.
My students come from a rural area of southeastern Ohio with over 700 students in our elementary school. A majority of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, and we have a high number of students with learning disabilities and various academic needs.
My students need math manipulatives to help them see and understand math concepts.
My students are below grade level in math and struggle to understand math skills. Having manipulatives to incorporate hands-on learning activities and projects will help students to actually "see" the math skills and therefore, develop a better understanding to help attain mastery.
My Project
These math manipulatives will help my students see math in action! Instead of just being shown and told how to regroup, students will be able to use the hands-on regrouping kit to see what is really happening when you regroup. They will see the ones change into a ten, and so forth. Being able to "see" what is happening will help them develop a deeper understanding and ultimately lead to concept mastery.
My students are kinesthetic learners who benefit from hands on experiences.
Using the number line sliders will help provide a useful tool to understanding rounding as well as addition and subtraction. Manipulatives such as the magnetic arrays will allow students to create arrays on the board and visually see the multiplication problems we are learning.
