This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I, ethnically diverse school in southeast Louisiana. Our students are mostly from a low socio-economic background and receive free breakfast and lunch. Hurricane Katrina has greatly affected our community.
Regardless of their home lives and background, my students walk into the classroom every morning full of life and ready for a day of learning.
My goal for my students is that each and every one of them will be a productive member of our community. They have so much to offer, each one having a unique and special story to tell. I can see their eyes light up as they are learning and soaking up new information. I'm so blessed that I can play a small part in their journey to success.
My Project
My math class is now divided into two small groups that meet daily. These groups are about eight students. I would love for these eight students to be able to meet daily with me on a nice carpet where we can get comfortable and share our ideas with each other. Therefore I am requesting a Navy blue classroom carpet. I am also requesting a blue floor chair for our Zearner of the Week. This is the student that has impressed me the most throughout the previous week. He or she will be allowed to sit in our floor chair. Will you help to make our math small group time more comfortable and cozy?
