My students need 2 sets of money manipulatives, 4 classroom balances, 20 write and wipe clocks, 1 tub of dice, number cubes, 2 packs of number lines, and other math manipulatives to aid in their learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
One, two, buckle my shoe, when I learn it hands on I'll know better what to do. I teach all the core subjects to a set of terrific grade one students who are energized and excited about learning everything. Teaching in a lower income school has taught me that creativity is a trait needed by both students and teachers. As a teacher, I need to be extra creative when teaching the curriculum to my students.
An understanding of math concepts in first grade is a necessary foundation for success in other grades. Without this foundation my students may not acquire the beginning tools they need to continue building in other grades. The time they spend in class may be the only time they ever relate to that concept with the proper guidance needed for learning and retention. Let us get this foundation securely laid. The more they interact with the concept in different modalities the more concrete it becomes to them.
With these games and tangible manipulatives my students will become "Math Magicians". They will continue on their path of discovery which is one of the best ways to learn.
With your help and support I know that my students will acquire an active working knowledge of their math concepts. This knowledge will go with them where ever they go because you helped them to learn it using the discovery process.
