Ms. Bhalai from Brooklyn NY is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need materials that will aid in their learning, such as math workbooks, and classroom supplies that will make instruction easier and the environment LIVE!!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I currently teach math to sixth and seventh grade students diagnosed with special needs. Class is a challenge due to the fears that students have for the subject. It is my aim to create an engaging and challenging learning environment that pushes students to their limits while making the subject come alive.
My students are middle schoolers in Brooklyn, New York.
They are considered disadvantaged and at-risk. They are sponges willing to learn, but they need the structure, resources, and experiences to flourish. In our middle school, students are held to high expectations with the aim of having them develop 21st century skills that will assist them in becoming self-sufficient adults.
I am a seasoned educator who understands the importance of environment and quality instruction within a school building. My school does not have enough funding to supply all teachers with the classroom materials that are requested. For this project, I have requested sticky easel post-it paper, a printer, a staple gun, and bulletin board materials. Most teachers purchase these items with their personal funds. However, these are all items that aid in developing a print-rich environment and are important in implementing projects. I intend to use the materials requested above along with the markers, place value table chart, and workbooks to create small group projects, which the students can present to their peers and display in the class. This year I want to re-envision math for my students and have it come to life. It is my desire to challenge my students to expand and embrace their understanding of the subject. Students will learn to be thinkers, problem solvers, and figure out how to approach the subject with enthusiasm.
By donating to this project, you will add to the creation of a welcoming environment for the students, add to the tasks and projects developed for the class, and encourage student engagement in the lessons and classroom.
These donations will help me as a teacher to plan and facilitate instruction effectively. More importantly, it will add to my goal of creating an environment that celebrates learning and the students. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
