This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from one of five Title I elementary schools located in Merrillville, Indiana. We are considered a high-poverty school, but we never let that interfere with our motivation and/or ability to succeed. We have a student population of about 75% African American and Hispanic. My students are hard-working, caring, and motivated to succeed. This school year, I have special education and English as a Second Language students, so our classroom needs are diverse.
My Project
I am asking for donations to help my students learn basic mathematical concepts with a more hands-on and interactive approach. I have many students who are working two levels below grade level, and I want to close this achievement gap. I want to give my students the needed math resources whenever they need them to help them understand a concept. The ten frames and Base 10 blocks are used daily, so these materials would be a huge benefit to my students. I would also like an easy way to keep all the supplies organized, which is why I am requesting the mobile carts. I hope you help us make math much more memorable this year!
