Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a small school district in a small town. Most of my students come to me with no preschool experience.

My school's minority student enrollment is 86%.

It enrolls 82% economically disadvantaged students. My students are curious, energetic, playful, and full of excitement for learning.

In our district, we have a $200 per year budget. I’m teaching my third year in kindergarten and have been an elementary teacher for 26 years.

With Covid in the mix, many of my students come to me with very little in-class instruction and are struggling independently. They deserve to have a great year with all that they need to have the best materials for their use as possible.

My Project

My students have missed out on so much education due to Covid and having to quarantine. I want to ensure they get the best education when they are in class. Quality is so important. Making the most of our days together is critical.

Creating play-based math centers will allow students to not only learn during table time but also while they are playing with friends.

These materials will allow my students to use centers daily to help guide them in math and with social skills too. I want them exposed to numbers in every center! Each item in the shopping cart is meant for every center in our room.

Foundational math is necessary for learning for all students. These necessary foundational skills will provide students with a pathway for a successful future. Numbers are all around us. It is important that students are given a solid foundation.

The math manipulatives will provide my students with counting, patterning, and graphing activities. The Magna-Tiles are always a big hit. They provide students with geometry skills, problem-solving, and imaginative play. The balance scale gives students measurement skill learning and number sense too. Each item donated will help my students learn in all the strands of math that are needed to be successful.
