My students are some of the hardest working kids that I know! They do not let their exceptional learning needs get in the way of their goals, and they come to class every day ready to learn something new.
As a Special Ed teacher at a Title I School, I work with students who not only have exceptional learning needs, but who also come from low income families.
In spite of the many difficulties that my students face, they come to school ready to face the day, and eager to engage in learning activities. Their excitement when they realize that they have mastered a new concept, and they are a step closer to reaching their goal, is what inspires me every day to reach my own goals.
My Project
Since I teach special education, many of my students not only have difficulties learning and retaining new concepts, but many of them have had adverse experiences with learning before. My job is to help reshape their feelings towards math, and to help them become not only excited to learn, but proud of themselves when they grasp a concept that might have been hard for them.
Learning through playing not only keeps students engaged, but helps them make lasting connections with their new knowledge.
These new Grab & Go Math Games will be a fun and exciting way to introduce new topics to students, as well as a way for students to practice mastered skills independently, to take ownership of their learning. The Math Fact File Folders will help students to review their math facts in a way that is much more engaging than simple flash cards!
