Kindergarten is the year it all starts! In my school, five and six year olds come to school for the first time with little foundational skills in place. Many come from non-English speaking homes and are predominantly of low socioeconomic status. My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
They believe in me to teach them ALL the things they need to learn and I want them to know I believe in them and they can do it ALL!
I teach at a Title I school in Texas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
We are in need of math centers that are hands on, engaging and lots of fun! We love to use our hands to explore and engage in math and financial literacy.
It is so important for kids to learn at a young age about the importance of building their math and financial knowledge so they a great foundation for their adult life.
We will use the listening center to focus on our basic numeracy learning as well as the magnetic math centers. We will build up to using the amazing board games later in the year to teach about financial literacy through the Allowance game! We can’t wait to use real life situations to earn and spend money!
